This simple and elegant cremation urn is hand thrown in the Raku fire process. Raku is a traditionally an ancient Japanese ceramic firing process used in the production of stoneware, and with the New Black glaze and color scheme this ceramic urn is a beautiful memorial urn for your loved one.
With the Raku ceramic process, each handmade ceramic urn is taken from the kiln red hot, the molten glaze silken and glowing. Then it is placed in a bed of straw or leaves in an air-tight container. The dry plant material immediately bursts into flame and the “reduction chamber” is sealed. The flame and the smoking, oxygen starved atmosphere transform the glaze surface creating the unique, seemingly ancient, colors and textures of raku. Thus, each of our one-of-a-kind Raku-fired funeral urns are unique in the particulars of the design and glaze finish. The best way to personalize this urn is to add a metal mediallion nameplate from our Accessories section, contact us for assistance any time.
